The world of 3-D has taken over our movie theaters in a way that leaves consumers breathless and wanting more. This new technology brings to life our favorite films so that we may truly appreciate the story and the production behind it. Not wanting to be left behind on this major trend, camera companies such as, Fujifilm, Sony and Olympus are now producing their own 3-D cameras that allow consumers to produce their own 3-D images.
These makers are all at various stages in producing the 3-D technology and making it useful for consumers. One thing they’ve all discovered was the challenge was not in creating the technology itself, but deciding exactly how to market it to their target audiences.
Just like most things that seem too good to be true, these companies have come across multiple challenges. Hooking consumers on 3-D cameras is difficult. Buying the camera also requires consumers to invest in a 3-D television or 3-D computer monitor that can cost several thousands of dollars, and the costs don’t stop there. The act of taking a 3-D picture requires some technical knowledge, much different from the “point and shoot” method we are so accustomed to. However, camera makers are ahead of the television producers in making strides toward simplicity and the gradual switch to 3-D technology.
Fujifilm, the first 3-D camera maker, was the first to roll out an extensive ad campaign for its second generation FinePix Real 3-D WE camera. The campaign featured advertisements on cinema screens and was supplemented by a social media and print campaign that reached out to enthusiasts of the technology.
According to Steve Sommers, VP of Sony’s Marketing, Sony will focus on educating customers on 3-D cameras with promotions, online marketing and in-store displays.
Despite the hurdles these companies have faced, analysts believe that 3-D technology will win customers over eventually.
Can your smartphone keep up with your daily activities? Mine only lasts for about half the day and then I’d better find a way to recharge it. I don’t know about you, but I find this just a little frustrating. The need for wireless charging seems to grow exponentially with every new gadget acquired. If phones no longer require wires to operate them, why should chargers?
Well, here is a solution called Powermat! With a Powermat, you can attach a receiver to your electronic device once and then set down up to three devices on the charging mat for safe and effective wireless charging of multiple devices from one dedicated outlet, rather than having to forage to find an outlet for each device. I’ve just got to say that this rocks! (or at least I think it does because I don’t own a Powermat yet.)
It’s not only convenient but will also free you from the constant hassle of plugging and unplugging, as well as the angst of running on empty since you need only drop your device on the charging mat to ensure wireless power delivery.
Its smart technology automatically stops energy delivery when your device has reached optimal charging capacity.
There are a full range of Powermat charging mats to choose from, including small profile single- or double-position mats that are ideal for nightstands or desks, and larger three-position and travel mats that are perfect for the family’s charging hub in the home or on the go. Powermat supports today’s most popular smartphones and devices on the market, including the iPhone 4.
Powermat 2X Rechargeable Travel Mat is easily portable with a built-in battery – provides up to 4 full charges for your smartphones, and even more for other Read More→
Lingerie is usually a standard gift item around any holiday or birthday. Something bright, something girly, something with frills and ruffles… but did you know one item touts life-saving as a benefit?
The Emergency Bra is as pretty as it is practical. Available in fire-engine red with an abundance of ruffle detailing, this is a bra any lady would love to wear. In case of an emergency situation where the air needs to be filtered, the wearer can simply unhook the front and back to create two face masks. Purchasing an emergency bra for your wife or lady friend not only ensures her safety, but yours as well.
The Emergency Bra is the brain child of Dr. Elena Bodnar, currently the founder and President of the Trauma Risk Management Research Institute. Dr. Bodnar started her professional career as a medical doctor in Ukraine, where she participated in evacuation and treatment of children from Chernobyl. This experience inspired her to design the Emergency Bra, the invention for which she was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in Public Health in 2009. The Ig Nobel Prize is awarded for an invention that on the surface seems hilarious, but really serves a better purpose than comedy. Other categories and winning research for the 2009 award includes the Peace award, for determining if it is better to be hit on the head with a full bottle or empty bottle; the Physics award, for determining why pregnant women don’t tip over; and the Biology award, for determining that bacteria from the fecal matter of pandas can reduce trash mass by 90 percent.
The Emergency Bra is available for purchase online for a reasonable $29.99 plus shipping. Keep it in mind this holiday gift-giving season.
When the kids go back to school in the fall, the new video games start showing up on the shelves (just in time for the upcoming holidays). But new games aren’t necessarily where the video sales wars are. Selling used games and accepting used games in trade has become hot, hot, hot. In fact, I’m pretty sure that my pre-teen son has perfected trading videos in. He looks at the neighborhood GameStop much the way that we viewed the local library, back in the day. His hobby of trading in games has been encouraged and perhaps even perfected by the staff at GameStop, as many times he makes trades and leaves the store with money on his Edge card.
Joining GameStop in the game trade-in service is Best Buy. They just rolled out the program to 600 stores and say more will follow. They are offering incentives, such as a $20 video game gift card, and they have plans to make pre-owned games available for sale.
This is excellent timing as this fall a multitude of games are coming out including Halo: Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops, ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Medal of Honor, Fallout New Vegas and Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Rumors are flying that a smaller iPad might be available in time for the holidays. Right now it is at the top of my wish list. Is it on yours? This sleeker version will be easier to travel with, yet with a 7-inch screen, it will still be large enough to see. And, it has the possibility of replacing my phone and laptop when I travel. One less thing to pack, heck yeah!
PC World wrote a great article earlier this week on the pros and cons of a smaller device. I guess we just want a few more months to see! Meanwhile, Santa stop here! My stocking is ready to be filled up with cool tech gadgets.
What is on your wish list?
When was the last time you were approached to buy an unlocked cell phone? I get offers via Twitter all the time. When I first started seeing them, I had to do some research on what exactly an unlocked phone was and why I’d even care. So for those of you who are still wondering, here is the 411 on locked and unlocked cell phones.
The iPhone is a great example. At the present time in the U.S. you can only buy an iPhone from AT&T and the phones only work on their system. Because cell phone carriers typically offer deep discounts on new phones, the phones are often set up with proprietary settings. This means your AT&T iPhone won’t work on the Verizon system. Sometimes once your contract has expired your carrier will unlock your phone. However, unlocked phones don’t always work correctly on the system you want them to work with.
Tech Girls take on this? Locked cell phones are just a fact. Because technology is designed to work with specific programs in specific environments, it seems that to get phones – like your iPhone – to work at their optimal level they will continue to be locked.
